Blue Sky is our ensemble for ages 8 to 12. Beginners and seasoned performers, in the same room, making theatre together. This semester they'll devise a new play, written entirely by them, based on E. Nesbit's Five Children and It.
Story summary: Five kids dig a hole in a gravel pit and find something at the bottom of it. It's older than anyone can understand and it's the last of its kind. This creature also happens to grant one wish each day. The catch is that you get exactly what you asked for. Wings, with no way down at sunset. Gold that nobody will take. A little brother suddenly so beloved that strangers try to walk off with him.
Over twelve Saturdays, the ensemble will learn the story, decide how they want to tell it, and shape it into an actual script. Then they rehearse it and put up a world premiere play.
Rehearsals are at Jones Paideia Elementary. The performances are at the Z. Alexander Looby Theatre, staged in a minimalist theatrical style.

Indigo is our ensemble for ages 13 to 18 who want to push their craft and build something with other people. This semester they'll devise a new play, written entirely by them, based on the epic poem, Beowulf.
Story summary: For twelve years, something has come into the great hall at night. Nobody sleeps there anymore. Then a stranger arrives from across the water and says they will fight it with their bare hands. They do. They win. And then the thing's mother comes looking for her son.
Beowulf is the oldest story in English, but it is a poem, not a play. There's no script to work from. Over twelve Saturdays, the ensemble will learn the story, decide how they want to tell it, and shape it into an actual script. Then they rehearse it and put up a world premiere play.

Story Stagers
Ages: 6 - 7
Dates: September 12, 19, 26 • October 3, 10, 24
Times: 9am-12pm
We don't just read the story, we step inside it.
In Story Stagers, kids explore a beloved piece of children's literature or fairy tale and turn it into a piece of theatre together. Through creative drama games, movement, and storytelling, they bring characters to life while building a play inspired by the story.
Along the way they practice imagination, collaboration, and creative problem-solving as they explore what happens when a book becomes a living world.
Class meets 9am to noon at Jones Paideia Elementary. Every day includes a snack break and time outside on the playground.
Showcase: Saturday, October 24 at 11:30am at Jones Paideia
Melody Makers

Every song is a story someone is singing.
In Melody Makers, kids learn songs, build choreography, and put together a piece of musical theatre together. Through music games, movement, and a lot of singing, they bring characters to life and figure out how a song moves a story forward.
Along the way they practice listening, performing together, and the kind of confidence that comes from singing in a room full of people who are on your side.
